Wrinkles

As we grow older, our skin loses its natural ability to produce collagen and elastin, two proteins that are essential for our skin to maintain a taut, healthy look. As such, we develop wrinkles around our body. This usually happens in areas that are commonly exposed to the sun, like your face and hands.

Broadly speaking, there are two types of wrinkles:

  • Dynamic Wrinkles
These wrinkles are formed through muscular movements like smiling or frowning. They only appear when our muscles are tensed or when we are doing something that requires movement of facial muscles like speaking.
  • Static Wrinkles
Dynamic wrinkles sometimes become permanent and become visible even when we’re not speaking or moving our facial muscles.

Depending on the type of wrinkles on your face, the recommended treatments will differ.

The Veritas Approach

Wrinkles can be treated and prevented by the use of neurotoxin even at a young age, when dynamic wrinkles start becoming obvious. If left alone, dynamic wrinkles can progress to become static wrinkles, which are more permanent and visible even without movement. Toxins are hence an extremely effective and popular method of wrinkle treatment.

However, toxins only help with muscle relaxation and do little to stimulate collagen and elastin. The overuse and improper use of toxins can also lead to undesirable side effects like frozen facies, tolerance and dependence.

Even so, there are many different treatment options for static wrinkles, and are frequently used in combination to achieve the best possible results. Various energy devices and injectable technologies can stimulate collagen and elastin at different layers of skin. The use of each depends on suitability that should be best assessed over an individual consultation.
