Treatment of Dark Eye Circles – explained by Dr. Chua from Veritas Medical Aesthetics
“Doctor, I have problems with dark eye rings. What can we do about that?”
Dark eye rings are a combination of causes. A lot of times, people have a bit of hollowing around the eye. Fillers can help with that. If they have bulky eyelids, Botox can help with that. And of course, if it is really dark because of blood vessels or skin darkening, we do a combination of lasers for that also.
It is very common – up to 80% of the people have a combination of causes for dark eye rings. Single type of treatments does not work very well to help dark eye circles; you need a mix of treatments.
“What are mine like?”
You have a little bit of tear trough. That is a bit of hollowing. By filling a little, it will look smoother and less dark. You also have a bit of blood vessels showing underneath and skin darkening.
That, we use a vascular laser and a skin laser to tackle. The best thing is that we can do it all in one go.
“Really? So it’s like you’re just going to laser a bit and then do a bit of fillers? And then my dark eye rings will be gone?”
Correct, that’s how it works. They will improve very much from the first session especially with the fillers. To improve the condition further, we usually use 2 to 3 more sessions after that.
Summary
- Dark eye rings are a combination of causes
- Mixed treatments, rather than single type treatments, work well in correcting dark eye circles
- 70% improvement from first treatment, subsequent 2-3 sessions for full treatment
