Laser Vaginal Tightening in Singapore

Vaginal laxity due to a loss of vaginal collagen is a common yet overlooked condition among women. While it is a normal part of aging, stretching of the vaginal wall and surrounding structures during childbirth can damage collagen fibres and result in a loss of vaginal wall elasticity and a laxity of pelvic supporting tissue. Because of this, some women may experience decreased sexual satisfaction or a certain degree of stress urinary incontinence, which is an involuntary leakage of urine when one coughs, sneezes, or exercises. It is important to address such issues that impact a women’s intimate health and not be made to feel uncomfortable about it

VARIOUS EVIDENCE BASED OPTIONS

Fotona Er:YAG Smooth laser – Fotona’s IntimaLase and Incontilase are gynaecological lasers that uses Smooth mode, a form of non-ablative laser pulse duration. When applied to the vaginal mucosal surface, it photothermally stimulates collagen and elastin production which thickens the vaginal wall, improves blood circulation, strengthens the pelvic floor, and reduce unwanted urine leakages.

Fractional CO2 laser – This procedure allows for vaginal wall rejuvenation and remodelling through fractional ablation. By absorbing water within cells, fractional CO2 lasers cause micro zones of injury to vaginal mucosal lining, which initiates the process of collagen remodelling. However, as water absorption of a CO2 laser is lower than that of an Erbium Yag laser, excess heat builds up which can cause thermal damage to surrounding tissue. A patient might therefore experience longer recovery time and more discomfort post- treatment.

Fractional Er:YAG laser – Similar to a CO2 laser, a fractional ablative Erbium YAG laser can also be used to stimulate collagen production and rejuvenation to vaginal wall tissue. With a better water absorption compared to a CO2 laser, heat damage to surrounding tissue is lesser and more controlled. This allows for quicker recovery time compared to a fractional CO2 laser treatment, however, a period of downtime would be still expected due to its ablative nature.

Radiofrequency Devices – Heat is generated in the vaginal wall using radio waves, which remodels and stimulates new collagen growth. Results are more subtle and one may require multiple treatment sessions

The Veritas Method

Even with various treatment options available, vaginal laxity benefits greatly from using Fotona’s IntimaLase/Incontilase. Through controlled and gentle thermal heating, it tightens the vaginal wall and strengthens ligaments that support the bladder and surrounding pelvic structures. By stimulating collagen remodelling and new collagen formation, there is toning and thickening of the vaginal mucosa. This is a safer and almost pain-free method involving minimal recovery time, yet at the same time achieving the results of vaginal rejuvenation and an improvement in stress urinary incontinence.

FAQs

You are suitable for vaginal rejuvenation if you experience:

  • Vaginal dryness during sex or urination
  • Trauma on the inner walls of your vagina due to childbirth
  • Symptoms of a weak pelvic floor such as urinary stress incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse
  • Vaginal laxity due to menopause, ageing or childbirth

You are not suitable for vaginal tightening if you have the following conditions:

  • Vaginismus
  • Anorgasmia
  • Dyspareunia
  • Severe prolapse
  • Vaginal lesions
  • Libido dysfunctions
  • Genitourinary tract infections

  • Autoimmune diseases
  • Pregnancy

Please check with your doctor to confirm your suitability.

Fotona IntimaLase laser is a non-ablative Er:YAG gynaecological laser that uses SMOOTH technology. It works by creating gentle rapid sequential heat pulses, which stimulates collagen and elastin production on the vaginal mucosal wall.

Other lasers like the fractional CO2 laser absorbs water within the vulvar tissues cells to improve blood flow in the vaginal canal.

Unlike fractional CO2 lasers which are ablative and have more downtime, Fotona IntimaLase is non-ablative, safer, less uncomfortable and comes with a lesser downtime.

Several clinical studies have proven Fotona IntimaLase to be safe and effective. There is a small chance of mild redness, swelling and discharge for 2-3 days post-procedure, but that is normal and will resolve on its own.

Before your vaginal rejuvenation treatment, you must give full and informed consent to the doctor, who will discuss the treatment details with you, including results to expect.

A pap smear and vaginal examination is also required to ensure you are free of any infection, lesions or abnormalities that may cause complications during the procedure. The procedure will only proceed if your results are normal.

During the treatment session, anaesthetic cream and lubricant will be applied to your labia for a smooth experience with minimal discomfort. The laser probe, which is a small hand-held device, is inserted into your vagina for about 10-15 minutes.

Patients with mild to moderate vaginal laxity are recommended to do 2 sessions with a maintenance session 6-8 months later. In more severe cases, 3 sessions may be recommended with subsequent maintenance sessions. However, individual results may vary.

Downtime is minimal, but avoid sexual activities and lubrication for about one week.
