Fotona LipLase therapy utilises Fotona’s Erbium:YAG laser to stimulate new collagen production in the lips. Through carefully customised passes, optical energy is transmitted in single sub-second long pulse sequences to avoid heat. In 6-7 pulses, surface tissue in the lips triggers new collagen production, resulting in plumper and fuller lips. Patients who wish to have deeper collagen stimulation can benefit from the laser’s PIANO mode, where treatment is done intra-orally on the mucosal lining of the lips. This reaches deeper skin tissues and is painless.
Lip plumping by LipLase™ happens in three stages:
- Stage 1: Some edema will appear immediately after treatment and will last for about a week. Instant volumisation.
- Stage 2: There might be some surface peeling, but this is normal and will last for 48 hours post-treatment at most. Patients will be given the necessary moisturising oils to prevent a high amount of peeling.

Unlike lip fillers, Fotona LipLase is a non-intrusive procedure that does not require the use of needles. Think of it as an alternative to injectables. Lip fillers also involve injecting a solution (usually hyaluronic acid) into your lips. While results are instantaneous, the filler will break down over time and is metabolised by the body.
In comparison, Fotona LipLase plumps lips naturally by encouraging the body to stimulate collagen production. Results also occur more gradually over a course of 4-6 months and patients will notice their lips appearing softer and plumper.
As LipLase treatment promotes natural collagen production, it is therefore dependent on your body’s ability to produce collagen. Results may differ across individuals. However, patients usually can see a difference after the first session; for optimal results, at least 3 sessions spaced 2 weeks apart and another 3 sessions spaced one month apart are recommended. Results last up to 12 months.
